Finches are exceptionally fun birds to have as pets and to breed. Although it may take some time to learn the ins and outs of breeding finches it is not hard to do. Finch breeding boxes can be found either online or at your local pet supply company.
When getting ready to breed your finch there is more needed than the breeding boxes. There are a few basic that a new breeder may want to know. First is the finch diet. The finch need a well balanced diet all of the time and not just during breeding season. A combination of protein and greens should be offered along with seed. One recommendation from top breeders is to begin offering these foods at a very young age.
A diet of fresh greens and mashed hard boiled eggs will be great if you are able to get the finch to eat these. Many times when starting the birds on these young a trainer bird can be used. This will help because the younger birds will watch and learn from the older trainer bird. When offering new foods it is best to do this while things are calm and before ever wanting to introduce something new such as a new mate or finch breeding boxes.
A healthy diet will also ensure optimum health as well as carry the birds through their molting will help them stay stronger. Molting is very stressful on the birds. New things such as a new mate, foods or breeding boxes should also not be introduced at this time.
Once the finch have been paired then it is time to introduce the finch breeder boxes. These boxes can be made from wicker or wood and purchased from pet supply stores or online. It is important to think about what you want to be able to do with the finch breeding boxes. Some breeders want to put the boxes on the inside of the cage while others want the type that fit on the outside of the cage to allow for more room. It is up to the individual owner.
Some of the breeding boxes will also come made so that you can open the top of the box. This is helpful if you want to be able to look into the box to check on the eggs and babies once they have hatched. Whether you have a box that opens on the top or not you will have to know what is going on inside the box. The breeder will have remove any eggs that do not hatch as well has hatchlings that do not survive. This is imperative for the health of the entire clutch. Obviously a rotten egg or a dead hatchling is not good to have around the newborn babies.
Breeding boxes will either be made from wicker or wood. Wicker tends to be more lightweight but also has its drawbacks. The wicker cannot be cleaned like the wooden boxes. The choice is up to the individual breeder and things should be kept as simple as possible when choosing the right finch breeding boxes for your birds.
